Description
One of the photos shows the outside of the building, which is at the top of Church Street, right by the castle. I've also included a picture showing the view of the castle from the front of the flat. Other pictures show the inside of the flat.
The flat has a very large, south facing sitting room with large windows that face the street and an impressive polished wood fire surround. There's a comfortable sofa, an armchair, a sideboard and a dining table and chairs.
The rest of the main rooms face towards the back of the building, with views onto the building's large, quiet and peaceful garden, part of which belongs to my flat. The back door opens from the kitchen and provides access to the patio (currently under construction), where there will be a table and chairs.
The kitchen is located in the middle of the flat and has an electric cooker, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, and kettle. There is enough room for a small table if required. There is a laundry drying rack which can easily be lowered from the ceiling using a rope and pulleys. There is also room to dry laundry outside and store bikes etc..
The very large double bedroom has a double bed, bedside cupboards, desk, double wardrobe and chest of drawers. The room is so big that even with all this furniture it is still really spacious! This bedroom has direct access to a large bathroom with bath, toilet, basin and walk-in shower cubicle.
The smaller double bedroom has a double bed, double wardrobe and 2 small chests of drawers. This bedroom has an ensuite shower room.
N.B. Some of the furniture has been moved by my current tenants so the items in the photos do not exactly match the descriptions!
The entrance lobby has room for storage of coats, shoes etc. and there is also storage space in a built-in cupboard in the smaller bedroom and a cupboard above the shower room.
Heating and hot water are provided by a modern, efficient, gas boiler. Bills for gas, electricity, water, telephone, internet, TV and council tax are not included.
The house is quiet and so the flat would suit people who are also quiet and civilised - possibly a postgraduate student/couple or visiting researcher/s with a child, or two postgrads sharing? Please note that it is not available on separate tenancy agreements, only on a joint one that covers all tenants.
The back door has a cat-flap installed and I would love to rent the flat to someone with a well-behaved cat (not more than one), and would consider other pets.
There is some on-street parking available nearby, although the residents' parking scheme requires use of a resident's permit, which is currently c. £25/year. Visitor's permits are also available. Further information about the scheme is available on Lancaster City Council's website; look for residents' parking zone B.
I live only a few minutes away in case of problems and the flat is near Lancaster railway station and the city centre. It takes only a few (about 3!) minutes to walk to the bus station, from where there are frequent buses to Lancaster University and the Lancaster campus of The University of Cumbria. Alternatively it's only a few minutes stroll into town and there is an excellent coffee shop very nearby. A large Sainsbury's supermarket in Cable Street is only a few minutes away.
The campus of the University of Cumbria is a pleasant 20-25 minutes walk away and there are lovely countryside walks and cycling routes very close too, along the river and canal and round the local nature reserves.
