4 Bed Detached House, Doleham Lane, TN35
Overview
Bedrooms: 4 | Bathrooms: 2 |
Max Tenants: 4 | Location: Hastings |
Description
The area:
Westfield is the nearest village – it has the best butcher in Sussex, a lively Church, great pub, village shop and a strong community. The station for trains to London is Battle (15 minutes in the car) and the trains run to Charing Cross and Euston. The local town of Rye is famous for its writers and has charming, cobbled streets. The house is five miles from bohemian Hastings - the haunt of artists and location of the Hastings Contemporary gallery. Rye is best for smugglers pubs and Hasting for the freshest Fish and Chips you have ever tasted. I don’t have to tell you why Battle is famous.
The location:
Hidden behind hedges off Doleham Lane and a ten minute walk to tiny Doleham Station (occasional trains to Ashford and Hastings) but with views over the Brede valley and glimpses of distant Rye in the mist. The property is not overlooked. No near neighbours. It is a quiet environment perfect for writers/creatives and people who love the outdoors. You might be thinking about a move to the country and want to rent while you find the right property. The house is fully furnished, but can be flexible as to what you want to use.
The property:
Enter through the blue front door and take off your wellies in the mud room which contains utilities including a stone sink and a fridge freezer. The floors throughout the ground floor are beech wood (‘junckers’) sprung boards – not new but oozing patina and family life.
The ‘farm style’ kitchen is fully equipped, and hand painted in Farrow and Ball light green, the adjoining dining room seats 8 and has an open working fireplace.
The light filled sitting room has two sofas and two armchairs and is huge with a large wood burning stove and lots of bookshelves. Two sets of patio doors lead out on the wooden deck that surrounds the sitting room, so you can find a breeze in the summer on either side of the house while you sit and listen to the birds singing in the apple tree by the kitchen.
The downstairs bathroom has a modern power shower with black slate aqua board and quality tiles.
Upstairs there are three double bedrooms and a single bedroom which could be a dressing room or study. The largest double bedroom is painted blue and has amazing views over the garden and valley. The carpets are plain grey, and the windows have grey blinds. The upstairs bathroom has a full size Victorian clawfoot bath which is marvellous if you like a long soak.
There is an acre of garden with two long beech hedges shaping the view down the valley, and wild roses in the high hedges that surround the property. There is a lot of grass so you can run barefoot in the dew, in the early mornings.
Parking:
Outside there is a crunchy gravel driveway and parking for six cars, the five barred wooden gate onto the quiet lane can be closed if you want complete privacy.
