Description:

A spacious and beautifully presented one bedroom flat in Bermondsey (Zone 1) situated close to the river and Shad Thames - available to rent from January 1st 2024.

Situated on the first floor of a very well positioned, low-rise, 1930’s, purpose-built apartment block, with high ceilings, large windows and plenty of natural light.

The flat is incredibly central yet quiet, and the perfect home for anyone who wants to live close to the heart of London in a really interesting, historic and vibrant area. You would be close to Bermondsey tube and London Bridge Station, and so many areas can be reached easily on foot.

My home for seven years, it was a wrench to leave, but I still live and work in London and I am always contactable and on hand to help if you need assistance with anything.

The flat:

The flat is within a solid, 30’s red brick mansion block and as such, access is via steps to the first floor and a balcony walkway. The interior is spacious, comfortable and well cared for. As my former home I fully renovated the flat, fitting a new heater (a quality Vaillant boiler) kitchen, bathroom and floors and it remains in great condition.

 It comprises of:

  • One large bedroom with a big window and plenty of built-in storage, including hanging space, drawers, bookshelves and desk area.
  • Generous living room with two large windows, tiled fireplace, integrated bookshelves and oak flooring.
  • Separate kitchen with contemporary feel, spot lit ceiling, integrated cooker, good size fridge freezer, new Bosch washing machine and space for a modest kitchen table.
  • Fully tiled, modern bathroom with bath and shower fixture, integrated sink unit and mirrored bathroom cabinet.
  • Separate toilet and sink.
  • Hallway with porcelain tiled floor that runs through bathroom and kitchen and large hallway cupboard for additional storage.

The quoted rent is for unfurnished, although cooker, fridge and washing machine are all in place and working well, and all windows have curtains or blinds. Thanks to the generous built-in storage and bookcases throughout, only a bed, sofa and table are really needed.

The building has been connected to Fibre Optic Broadband.

There is free on estate parking for one car, with permits supplied by Southwark Council. They can also supply online visitor parking permits. There are outdoor lockers and bicycle spaces available for hire, again through Southwark Council, who also tend to the regular cleaning and maintenance of the building.

 Key features:

  • Light, spacious one bed
  • Amazing location – close to public transport and amenities
  • Free on estate parking
  • Bills exclusive
  • London based landlord
  • British Gas Homecare Cover
  • Fibre Optic Broadband Available

 Location:

The flat is incredibly central. It is just one street away from Shad Thames and a two-minute walk from the River Thames. It is a five-minute walk to Bermondsey Tube Station (Jubilee Line) and a fifteen-minute walk to London Bridge Station (Northern and Jubilee Lines and overland services) giving you fast rail access to Central London and the West End as well as Canary Wharf, Docklands, City Airport, The O2 and Stratford. Buses leave from almost directly outside the flat to Waterloo, Shoreditch and the West End. There is also a new cycle lane running right past the flat, heading in towards central London and out towards Greenwich. The City and Spitalfields in the East are all easily walkable – and if you don’t mind a decent walk then most of Central London can be reached on foot. Better still, you can follow the river right from the flat into central London and see some amazing sights along the way.

The popular Maltby Street Market and Spa Terminus are both just around the corner, Bermondsey Street, with its amazing restaurants (Jose, Casse-Croute, Pique-Nique) is a short walk away, as is the world-famous Borough Market. There are pubs aplenty, with The Angel and The Mayflower in Rotherhithe giving spectacular river views.  Bermondsey also has an antiques market and some lovely, well-tended parks. You can reach Tower Bridge in five minutes and cross to the north side to explore historic Wapping (again, more great pubs). Walking west along the river from the flat takes you to London’s Southbank and The National Theatre, The British Film Institute, and The Royal Festival Hall, via the Tate Modern, which is just a thirty-minute walk.

For more culture, the flat is within close walking distance of The Bridge Theatre, The Unicorn Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Fashion and Textiles Museum and The White Cube Bermondsey, as well as numerous, smaller independent contemporary galleries and studios.

Amenities:

I don’t think you will struggle to find anything you need in Bermondsey. There is a good size Tesco a few minutes away, a closer Coop, an organic grocer and plenty of cafes, delis, and Italian wine specialist, 'Bon Vino', just moments away, with larger superstores in nearby Canada Water or on the Old Kent Road. The Bermondsey Beer mile is just across the road, with plenty of independent restaurants and bars located under the train arches. All other amenities, such as Post Office, hairdressers, dry cleaners, cobblers, gyms, cafes, bars, etc. can be found very close by and, should you need a doctor, the New Mill Street Surgery opposite is excellent.

Rent:

£1,800 per calendar month (plus £1,800 deposit which will be kept in a tenancy deposit scheme)

Term:

12 months with a three-month notice period.

Availability:

The flat is available from Jan 1st 2024.

Application process:

References will be required, either from a former landlord or employer, and you will need to pass a standard credit check. You will also need to provide evidence of your current employment, along with the security deposit equivalent to one months rent.

If you are interested in moving in but the unfurnished aspect is causing complications then do still get in touch. I would prefer any furniture coming into the flat to be new or from a known source, to avoid the bed bug plague!

Please note the photos were taken during the previous tenants term - the furniture differs slightly now, but it's the same flat.

And please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I now live about 15 minutes away and I am always happy to help. I’m sure the current tenants will also be pleased to answer any questions you may have about the flat and the area – even me!
