A similar distance in the other direction is Camberwell, home of many great local restaurants, and some of the best falafel in London. Try out the Crown and Anchor in the Brixton direction (five mins. from the house), which specialises in craft and interesting beer, or the Sun in the Camberwell direction.
The Co-op, Tesco, a large Morrisson's and a LIDL are all a short walk from the house. Alternately, there are various independent grocery shops in Camberwell and Brixton, and outdoor markets in Myatt's Fields and Oval at the weekend.
If you want to stretch your legs, round the corner is Myatt's Fields park, a beautiful Victorian park, complete with tennis courts, a cafe, and seasonal flower beds.
